What is it that’s so appealing about science and auto-tune mashups?

Could it be the inherent fashion-sensibilities of the global science community? (Deep down, you just know that skivvies and elbow patches are cool.) Could it be the eyeball popping special-effects that seem to accompany most lessons on matters of quantum? (Science lessons and acid-house, rave parties might actually have more in common than you think.) Or could it be the melodic appeal of words like sub-atomic? We think it’s the latter.

In 2009, we brought you Carl Sagan, in a duet with Steven Hawking, featuring Led Zeppelin-esque lyrics like, “If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.” The following clip, The Quantum World, is the eleventh installment in the ongoing Symphony of Science music video series, a musical project “designed to deliver scientific knowledge and philosophy in musical form.” Enjoy!

Morgan Freeman, Stephen Hawking, Michio Kaku, Brian Cox, Richard Feynman and Frank Close get jiggy wit’ it.
