Three days after its release on YouTube the latest ad from Volkswagen has gathered close to half a million views.
It’s not a particularly remarkable ad nor is it selling a specific vehicle. This is a branding exercise pure and simple.
But, it has a puppy in it. A puppy that barks like a Volkswagen.
Volkswagen are quite partial to dogs. They feature in many of its televisions commercials around the world. Last year, for a Superbowl ad, a choir of dogs barked the Star Wars theme tune. That ad has been viewed on YouTube about 18 million times.
So, perhaps using a puppy is one of the lesser known secrets to creating a viral video.
