You may have seen this video already.
A guy, bored at work, messed with a bug trying to crawl across a piece of paper. The bug is not harmed in any way. Rather, it is confused by the lines and circles that are drawn around it.
These lines of ink impede its progress. In some instances, the lines stop it in its tracks. The circle has the bug extremely confused, racing within the circle, finally daring to run over the line and escape.
And, as you may expect, it got me thinking.
When you’re building a business, there are lines and circles like this all over the place. There are distractions, obstacles to go around, hurdles to jump over.
A lot of the time, a company founder will feel very much like this little bug just trying to cross a piece of paper.
So, what can a founder do?
You can do exactly what this little bug does. It stays focused on the journey, rather than the path.’
It pivots. It turns. It tries different ways to make progress. And, it tries them in quick succession.
This resilient little bug can teach us a lot about progress and reaching our goals.
