This innovation initially came to life when…

I thought of the device while I was living in Broome, WA in 2006. Being a water lover I decided to make a prototype out of some poly pipe and an old real estate sign. While snorkelling with my Watrwing, people would ask me where could they get one. That’s where my journey started. It is Australian Trade Marked, USA Patent and Australian Design Patent. The Watrwing is now being used by NSW Institute of Sport and swimming schools around Australia. It is also being bought and used by swimmers in the UK and the USA.

WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Be used for improving kicking and breathing skills. Its unique design takes the swimmers under the water, spinning like a seal or moving like a manta ray. The Watrwing makes ascending and descending underwater a lot easier for anyone interested in swimming.

It does this by…

Using your legs for power the Watrwing steers you in the direction you want to go. The Watrwing gives the swimmer the ability to travel underwater at his/her desired depth. Twisting the wrists creates a spinning motion underwater; if both wrists go up and down together this creates an effect like butterfly stroke. Watrwing makes snorkelling direction heaps easier.

PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

The Watrwing is a unique underwater swimming tool, it is the only swimming device that can spin you while underwater and directs you the way you want to go. It is great for fitness and fun, and it is a serious learning aquatic device. Simple, unique, and effective. It helps to build and develop underwater swimming. Great for all swimmers.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

The Watrwing devise can make snorkelling more fun, it improves fitness, it helps children learn to swim and is being used to hone the skills of Olympic swimmers. It is a great promoter for exercise and fun for recreational swimming.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Watrwing is a completely new innovative Australian design. There is not a swimming device like it anywhere in the world.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

There are no previous Aquatic devices like the Watrwing. It is unique to Australia and the world.

TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

The Watrwing can be used by anyone that likes water activities, swimming in the ocean or pools, lakes or inlets. The age group for using the Watrwing is open from 4-year-olds to 90-year-olds, if you can swim you can use the wing. 62 % of Australians enjoy water activities (stats from the 2008 Australian Census), that’s about 14 million potential customers in Australia alone.

DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

It is available for sale through…

The website. I have a number of Australian schools using and also selling the Watrwing, I am attending Swimming Trade shows here in Australia and this year I will be going to the USA and the UK Swimming Trade shows.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Because the Waterwing is a new concept in underwater swimming, training and fun, my strategy has begun with getting it to the Australian coaches and into swimming schools. Next I will be going to the USA and the UK; I already have a number of schools using the product overseas. It is being accepted with enthusiasm and gratitude, this great new product.
