Gordon Gekko, the fictional character Michael Douglas portrayed as the epitome of 1980s corporate materialism, is back. Oliver Stone’s sequel to his 1987 classic Wall Street begins with Gekko just emerging from prison with a lingering taste for ‘the game’.
According to the official film blurb:
As the global economy teeters on the brink of disaster, a young Wall Street trader partners with disgraced former Wall Street corporate raider Gordon Gekko on a two-tiered mission: To alert the financial community to the coming doom, and to find out who was responsible for the death of the young trader’s mentor.
To be honest, the 2010 version looks a little cheesy if the trailer (embedded below) is any guide — especially when placed alongside the original trailer (also embedded). Apparently, Charlie Sheen gets but a cameo in the sequel.
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is slated for a September release in Australia.
