The following five minute video is a montage of the campaigns produced by Victoria’s Transport Accident Commission (TAC) over the past 20 years. A pioneer in the use of graphic and often shocking television commercials to convey a public service message, the TAC has been both criticised and praised for employing this approach.
While the views of critics and advocates are are still divided, there is one factor that can’t be denied. Since December 10th 1989, when the first TAC commercial went to air, the Victorian road toll has fallen from 776 to 303 (in 2008).
The montage features iconic scenes and images from these commercials, all edited to the moving REM song “Everybody Hurts”. (We’re thinking that it wouldn’t hurt to sit down racing-driver and ‘dickhead‘ Lewis Hamilton to watch this timely compilation.)
