Microsoft's Windows 7 launch party tutorial gets the YouTube treatment

0

As Kraft’s iSnack 2.0 debacle illustrates, companies don’t have much room for error these days when it comes to launching a new product. That is especially true if that company’s name is Microsoft and that product is Windows 7, the latest iteration of the company’s flagship product and the follow-up to the much maligned Windows Vista.

Microsoft has never been known for its deft marketing. So it comes as no surprise that the “house parties” Microsoft is hoping will effectively promote Windows 7 in living rooms across America (kind of like Tupperware parties for geeks) are themselves being promoted by a cheesy, earnest infomercial-tutorial, posted on YouTube recently.

You can watch the original video here, but this parody-hack is much more entertaining. The mischievous user simply beeped out the name “Windows 7” any time one of the actors mentions it, introducing a bawdy tone to the tutorial.

Did Microsoft really expect anything different?
