What is 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. Behold, our 2012 30under30 Honourable Mentions! More.

Jeffrey Cooper, NSW (b. 1984)

Name: Jeffrey Cooper
Age: 28 (Born: February 1984)
Gender: Male
State: NSW
Known for: Step Change Marketing

To those considering Step Change Marketing for growing their businesses, Jeffrey Cooper has this reassurance: wankers don’t work here.

Cooper and team put together a hilarious short video on this point to take a hammer to the cliches they saw plaguing the industry, and the resulting buzz was phenomenal.

The Step Change alternative to industry best practice has brought on formidable clients such as Sony, Channel10, Red Cross, ANZ, 3M and Australian Pork.

The Step Change staff has doubled and revenues have tripled in the last 12 months.

Quite impressive, since its co-founder was an unknown on the entrepreneur circuit three years ago. Having started up in the mire of the GFC, Step Change has only since gone up and further up.

And Cooper, a commander of the public speaking stage, is as skilled at conquering the wankers face-to-face as he is online. “Six times a month I am on stage in front of an audience of business owners,” says the Sydney native.

“I’ve solved over 300 questions live and never once been stumped. It’s about integrity.”

Anthill asks: Jeffrey Cooper, have you ever been lucky, punk?

I negotiated [Step Change Marketing] with my business partners in just 24 hours. That’s all. Cancelled the round-the-world trip, unpacked my bags and said to my business partner, “This is our big chance.” Luck has been having the inspiration to knuckle down and work hard — years later it was the right choice.
