Anthill to launch Australia’s first MOVIE CLUB for entrepreneurs… maybe

dvd fan Anthill to launch Australias first MOVIE CLUB for entrepreneurs... maybeLate last year, I asked readers whether they (you) would be interested in an Anthill Book Club as part of a blog post titled, ‘What books inspire you‘.

I made the point that, like many entrepreneurs, I sometimes find myself without anyone to bounce thoughts off after reading the latest paradigm-shifting page-turner.

The response was surprisingly strong (thanks to all those people who filled out our survey). However, many people were simply concerned that a book delivered every month would become a chore rather than a boon (or an expensive doorstop).

The good news is that the exercise got us thinking.

If a Book Club is too demanding, what about a Movie Club – specifically, a Move Club for Entrepreneurs!

A quick Google search revealed that the concept is not otherwise available in Australia (please let me know if you are aware of an alternative… it’s better that we learn now than later).

Furthermore, one great thing about working at Anthill is that we often get to hear about the newest, most inspiring, heart-pumping, eye-ball popping business documentaries and new release DVDs before the public. And we also are generally introduced to the slow-burners sooner or later.

Of course, we also realise that many people these days illegally download films of all varieties from torrent sharing sites (tsk tsk). But I’m one of those old-fashioned folk who like to own and keep my hard copy DVDs (and I’m sure I’m not alone).

Add the convenience of delivery to my door and the option to discuss and share my thoughts through an online forum and suddenly this concept becomes more and more appealing (at least, to this journo-slash-business owner).

So, here’s the plan…

If you think that this is a good idea or a bad idea, we’d love to hear from you (leave a comment below). If you’d like to help us evaluate actual feasibility, by providing a bit more detail, we’ve created a short market research survey (click here).

Blockbuster idea or raspberry?

I think it sounds a great idea. I for one would be very interested in such a club.

What if Anthill called on the wealth of information from it’s subscribers and produced their own documentary on starting a business or service in Australia? Maybe take a real life sample and see if you can get it to float.

This would be a great reality check for those considering taking the leap into small business. If people can understand just how much time and money may be involved they may consider they need more capital, more education or that it really isn’t a viable option for them. Educating people with real figures will help them to not gloss over the facts when they do the analysis for their own business.

Done well it could be a valuable (marketable) tool to so many. You could also have printable reports and checklists that can be accessed via your pc.

It’s way cheaper to learn such lessons from a DVD than the harsh reality of life that could see you having your house repossessed!

Hi John – We’re currently working on a TV pilot that we hope will incorporate some of those ideas. Watch this space. :-)

9 things a 9 month-old can teach you about online marketing [VIDEO]

This morning, I sat down with my 9-month old son, Julian, to feed him breakfast. This is one of the jobs allocated to me as a first-time, new father. Remembering the arduous steps required to complete yesterday morning’s meal (and the day before that), and contemplating how bizarre it is that I must work so hard to provide him something that will make him stronger and healthier and happier, I began to think about online marketing. Yes, the brain works in mysterious ways. (And I am kind of sleep deprived.)
