1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

I came home from work one evening, kids were hungry and I hadn’t organised anything for dinner. As I picked up the phone to order takeaway for the 3rd time that week I was filled with an overwhelming sense of guilt… Guilt about what it was I was feeding my family. That night when my husband came home from work and we sat down to our takeaway we talked about how we could manage evenings better. It was in this conversation that I wished I could buy food from my neighbour… and FoodSt was born.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

connect people and their communities through home-cooked food and improving the way we live and eat. We are empowering talented cooks to earn an income from home whilst providing access to locally sourced, wholesome homemade food.

It does this by…

…through our website platform where we publish the best signature dishes from within a local area for others to buy. The food is made fresh in the cooks home and delivered to their customers (or picked up). We partner with local butchers to keep costs competitive and support our local community and with schools.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Current outsourced dinner options include takeaways eg. restaurants/UberEats, heat-and-eat or recipe box subscriptions. We believe that what people eat at home is very different to what is available to buy. Although all address a need for convenience, FoodSt is the only service that provides food thats convenient, supports the local community, is hot and ready-to-eat and is truly homemade.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

For customers: FoodSt provides real homemade food that’s locally available, supports the community, different to standard takeaway, healthier and delivered hot and ready-to-eat.

For our cooks, we provide an opportunity to earn income working from home, learn and gain recognition.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

There currently isn’t a service like this in Australia! We have worked for the past 2 years with local Regulators to influence policy and as of July when guidelines change we will be the 1st state in the world to allow FOR this type of service.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Customer side:

1. Time-poor people (busy professionals or families) that are looking for healthier convenience options.

2. The ageing or people caring for their ageing parents who have disposable income and are looking for more nutritious options.

On the Cooks side:

1. Budding Master chefs that have always dreamed of a career in food but for reasons such as risk, cost, legislation haven’t done so.

2. Stay at home-mums, retirees that love cooking and would like to earn some extra income.

It is available for sale through…

Our online website www.FOODST.com.au

We are also working with schools to make the meals available through their school ordering system – imagine that having people cooking and purchasing within the school!

Our marketing strategy is to…

Have a very hyperlocal marketing strategy and in 2 areas in Sydney currently. Strategy includes:

1. Social Media including video marketing
2. Leverage marketing with Real Estate Agents, Schools, Financial services etc
3. PR strategy
4. Brand partnerships
