With many of the Victoria’s hospitals crippled by an industrial action by the Australian Nursing Federation, we thought it timely to bring forth this video, by nurse-training provider Ausmed, dubbed “A World Without Nurses.”
That’s not exactly what’s happening in Australia, but the tension is palpable. According to news reports, Fair Work Australia ordered the union to stop the strike Thursday, but the nurses and midwives are pressing on. The Victorian government says a protected industrial action endangers the health and safety of patients.
The nurses are asking for an 18.5 percent pay increase spread over about 3.5 years. The strike has forced hospitals to close hundreds of beds. The union has been through this before — in 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2007.
So, watch the video and then tell us: Who’s side are you on?
