Your business card is CRAP

June 29, 2009 | By Paul Ryan

Let’s hope your business card never finds its way into this guy’s hands.

This guy just makes me shake with laughter. I don’t know why! (Perhaps it’s because he’s so earnest.) Nice find Paul.

“It doesn’t fit in a Roladex, because it doesn’t BELONG in a Roladex.”

You will never be able to put Joel into a Rolodex – definitely one of a kind and even if you through it out, you would remember him – met once – never forgotten

Sorry, this video is crap. Only someone who loves themselves so much would judge their own product. His card would be the first in the bin because it doesn’t fit in the Rolodex

Mark…Rolodex? Do they still make those?

… and I thought a Rolodex was a nice watch!?

An interesting topic – I wrote about a similar thing recently in my blog …

When you promote a product, quality should be all the way, so do not use bad quality videos and YouTube.

When I first met Joel Bauer a few years ago I was stunned… “This man is not real” may well be your first re-action! And since my first encounter with him, I’ve had the privilege of spending many days with him – my wife and I have found Joel to be a true gentleman of the highest integrity, the consummate Master and Mentor of his unique trade.

Joel is among the kindest and most sincere people whom I have ever met. His story is phenomenal and his enthusiasm is infectious; his energy flows from a bottomless reservoir.

Joel Bauer’s knowledge and global accomplishments are so profound, and they speak so loud, that when you first encounter this wonderful man you are easily divided – you are instantly in deep and speculative admiration or in total shallow and sceptical disbelief!

I strongly encourage those who jest and mock Joel Bauer – and particularly if you have not fully researched him and met with him – that you look beyond the seemingly obvious.

I’m sorry but this is my first taste of Joel Bauer and I found it a real turn off. He makes a great point about differentiation but his manner and arrogance make me feel utterly repulsed. I’m a graphic designer and I love quirky, unique cards with metallics and embossing (utilised with skill & in moderation). However, die-cutting reminds me of those cheap birthday cards you used to get as a kid and it causes the edges of the card (no matter the stock quality) to get ragged. Also, cards that don’t fit in my directory give me the shits and soon get chucked out when I clean the clutter off my desk. So YES to good quality stock and YES to impressive, unique design but a big fat NO to being a wanker. Maybe I’m just not Joel’s market.

Like I said at the end of my last post…
“I strongly encourage those who jest and mock Joel Bauer – and particularly if you have not fully researched him and met with him – that you look beyond the seemingly obvious.”

And yes, you may be correct when you say “Maybe I’m just not Joel’s market.”

Enjoy! and Here’s to Much More Life!

Like Don above I too have had the opportunity to spend time with Joel. He definately doesnt do anything for NO reason. His business card pitch is to get people thinking and talking about him. He doesnt care if it is positive or negative as long as you are talking about him.
I’ve seen him pull $450,000 out of an audience in 3 hours. He is a master of his craft and doesnt give a damn about business cards…. its part of his show and a show that has helped many people master the craft as a speaker and make major changes in their lives.
There is Joel the showman and then there is Joel behind the scenes. Both are pretty cool.

He may have a nice card, but he works too slowly. 25 years is waaaaay too long to design a business card. I usually get them done in about 2 weeks! ;-)

I thought this was a spoof but based on the comments I guess this was supposed to be “real”.

Nobody puts Baby in a corner and nobody puts Joel in a Rolodex.

    Sheeez, get over yourself.

This is a “viral video”. Good or bad, it is designed to get passed around and create a buzz. As they say, any publicity is good publicity…as long as it’s effecive. The guy you see in the video is not Joel. He was being directed to give attitude and the guy that released the video tried to hurt his reputation, but instead Joel ended up grossing $5.6M from it.

Joel is a super nice guy. Smart as a whip. Millionaires come to him for mentoring. His reputation and creds are top notch.

For those that don’t like the guy… it really doesn’t matter. You are still talking about him and I’d guess if you raked in nearly $6,000,000 worth of business because of a viral video that was almost all profit, you probably wouldn’t care too much either.

I saw him talk once and over 40 people lined up for a chance to PAY him $100 for his business card. Now, I’m sure there are people in this post that you couldn’t give your business card out to because of disinterest. I saw him create an opportunity to collect $4500 to hand out his business card.

He’s an effective marketer. Like he said in that video. It’s not about being liked. It’s about being effective. That is 100% true.

    My $0.2.

actually the content of what Joel says is good – but it is the delivery and the annoying putting down style that gets my goat!! – my guess is in real life he must be feeling a tad insecure and afraid and would be having problems sleeping.!!

9 things a 9 month-old can teach you about online marketing [VIDEO]

This morning, I sat down with my 9-month old son, Julian, to feed him breakfast. This is one of the jobs allocated to me as a first-time, new father. Remembering the arduous steps required to complete yesterday morning’s meal (and the day before that), and contemplating how bizarre it is that I must work so hard to provide him something that will make him stronger and healthier and happier, I began to think about online marketing. Yes, the brain works in mysterious ways. (And I am kind of sleep deprived.)
