1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

This innovative approach to healthcare administration came about when Deana Scott found that real estate to establish a ‘traditional’ specialist medical practices was becoming scarce. Whilst sourcing a suitable site, Deana began running practices from her office and becoming an early adopter of cloud-based and ICT technology.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

VMO provides medical specialists with a virtual back office which allows them to minimise risk and overheads. This enables specialists to leverage current technologies in order to deliver more flexible healthcare. Their practice, virtually anywhere.

It does this by…

…providing an end-to-end solution for specialists which includes personalised answering, hosted software, patient bookings, typing, bookkeeping and practice management services. Each provider can retain their individual brand so they can can utilise the virtual service without compromising on image.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…it now allows medical specialists to establish their practice in 1-2 weeks including full-time staff, branding, software, practice management and bookkeeping. They do not need to re-invent the wheel as all the business systems and processes are already established. This is a fastback to market, providing healthcare services much sooner than in the past, which was usually three months.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

…being a fast-track to private practice and outsourcing the establishment and ongoing business operations of a medical service. Specialists no longer need to be concerned about staff illness or annual leave as there is always an informed, experienced secretary available.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Prior to my innovation in 2007, there was no one else providing this centralised, integrated service. Doctors would have to share rooms with a colleague, do work themselves, utilise paper-based records, or they would attempt to work via terminal services which rendered the office-based computer unusable.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Prior to Virtual Medical Office there was no other solution. Similar services have recently surfaced and include Synapse and VConsult.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

…medical specialists who are seeking to establish themselves in private practice. In particular, the service is highly cost-effective for part-time specialists who don’t have the physical requirement for a full-time set of rooms. Specialists also looking to outsource the business operations of their medical service, which include those who may be looking to downsize as they approach retirement.

It is available for sale through…

…the website (www.vmore.com.au).

Our marketing strategy is to…

…promote through partnerships, speaking engagements, workshops and social media channels.
