What are the Anthill Cool Company Awards?

The Cool Company Awards were launched in 2006 as a way for Anthill to acknowledge and celebrate Australian organisations that are doing things differently to bring about positive change. Cool Companies stay one step ahead of the rest. They breed leaders who are rule-makers and rule-breakers. They are trend-setters in attitude and action. Quite simply, they are … cool! More.

Any company that can save a person from waiting in a queue is a winner as far as we’re concerned. We just hate standing in line! Argghhh.

Thankfully, NoQ is here to help. Phew! (Calming thoughts, calming thoughts…)

NoQ was born from a moment of inspiration on the part of its founder, Brad Moran. In 2011, Moran found himself waiting in line for a movie but wanting to get some food without losing his spot. The scenario got him to thinking of way that he could pre-order and pay with his mobile so that he could grab his food and go without additional queue time waiting for the food. Voila! NoQ was born.

That same year, NoQ got off the ground with the express purpose in mind of democratising mobile commerce by giving businesses and consumers the tools and freedom needed to focus on taking actions that really matter to them, avoiding the mundane banality of un-fun actions like waiting in line.

The NoQ model capitalises on everything alluring about the promise of mobile shopping. The result is a comprehensive mobile ordering platform. Using the service, businesses and consumers do not have to be concerned about taking orders or handling cash.

Inside, NoQ is making good use of software like 15five and Yammer to improve productivity. The company celebrates major wins by inscribing them on a basketball that gets dunked through a hoop in the office. In addition, the company says that lunch, drinks, and the occasional movie (fittingly) are de rigeur.

The company is engaging in some charitable efforts, as well. NoQ has built apps fro charities at no cost to help the good causes take in donations and spread their respective messages. In short – NoQ is committed to making mobile technology accessible to any business, be it a startup, established retailer, or nonprofit.

The team at NoQ is well aware of its primary obstacle, the fact that consumer education is not as widespread as the company would like. Growth in the area is heading in the right direction, says the company, but the concept is still a futuristic one. Nevertheless, NoQ has plenty going for it. Founded by an ex-AFL player, and housed in the CBD in a converted townhouse, NoQ is peppering fun in with its recipe for success.
