What is 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year’s batch of nominees was extensive and impressive. So much so that we believe several young talents who didn’t snag 30under30 top honors still deserve your attention and recognition. We’re calling them our Up-and-Comers. More.

Erick Armando, VIC (b. 1987)

Name: Erick Armando
Age: 24 (Born: May 1987)
Gender: Male
State: VIC

Erick Armando’s website, DealsGuide, grabs onto the group-buying boom and takes it to the next logical level. DealsGuide aggregates the daily-deals sites such as Spreets, Wimzy and Scoopon, putting the craze under one roof.

“There are a minimum of 45 daily deal sites in Australia,” Armando says. “Imagine receiving that many emails every day. DealsGuide gathers all these deals and has it there for you all on one page, ready to click through and buy.”

Armando launched DealsGuide in 2010 after he and a business partner studied the group-buying phenomenon, looking for the best opening. “Having an impact in whatever industry I am in is a massive motivator,” he says. “This also encourages me to push through what is comfortable and go into the unknown.”

He says their goal from the start was to partner with quality deal sites rather than compete against them. The strategy appears to be working; DealsGuide is now one Australia’s top group-buying aggregators. It was honored earlier this year as one of Anthill’s Smart 100.

Armando says they work to keep DealsGuide at the top by making it simple to use and by keeping it relevant and on top of the latest deals. They get the word out about DealsGuide through Facebook, strong SEO and their blog.

Anthill asks: Erick Armando, what’s your superpower?

“If you were to ask my beautiful wife, she would say invisibility. This journey has required heart and effort, but also a lot of time. So a shoutout to Grace, who has been such an amazing support.”
