This innovation initially came to life when…

The concept of the JUCA cot began with an Australian mum and her experience with her 4 children. Catherine McGrath struggled at times with her children and lifting them in and out of the cot placed great strain on her spine. She sought a proactive solution by developing a cot which made it easier for parents to lift their child out of the cot without causing strain on their lower back. Catherine worked with a physiotherapist and an engineer to develop the unique cot lift concept.

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…enables the mattress to be raised to allow a carer to lift a baby from the cot at a safer height. it provides a more ergonomic and safer alternative to Australian consumers.

It does this by…

… three defined mattress levels, controlled by remote. At the highest level a baby can be safely lifted from the cot without undue bending and strain on their carer’s lower back. The upper level is for transferring the child in and out of the cot. The middle level is for babies. And the lower level is for toddlers.

Short women who find it difficult to transfer their child out of the cot. The JUCA cot also benefits older people who may experience pain and discomfort whilst babysitting a child. Child care centres using the JUCA cot can prevent back injuries by reducing the amount of heavy lifting that is required to lift many children out of the cots. Hospitals and health centres can prevent many back injuries to health care workers through the provision of the JUCA cot.
