What is the 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians.

Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.

Gil Snir, NSW (b. 1988)

Name: Gil Snir
Age: 28
Known for: Bench

Gil is out to empower brands with the best all‑in‑one programmatic solution to help them maximise their marketing spend with Bench, a powerful platform for marketers to manage and successfully scale their performance marketing campaigns. Bench is built on top of a powerful, artificial intelligence engine that draws on the thousands of campaigns that have been run on the platform to date.

Alongside his two cofounders, Gil has grown Bench to lead the space in programmatic marketing.

“We’re now 40 people and rapidly growing as the no.1 provider across APAC. Entrepreneurial cred comes when your customers advocate your products and when your competitors mention you as their number one threat. Both are happening more and more,” he remarked.

Gil highlighted to Anthill that marketing has been a core focus of his at Bench revealing, “We have an internal rule that our sales teams will never cold call so we have developed a marketing automation funnel that feeds each of the team members roughly 20‑30 leads per week. We do this via four main channels being email nurturing, paid digital media, Bench‑run events and thought leadership.”

“By far, most customer wins have come off the back of our Benchrun events, namely Game Changers and Digital Espresso. These have taken on a life of their own and now attract over 70 guests each month.

Today, Bench has 35 full time staff in our Sydney office and another 10 full time engineers based in Russia. The startup has been ranked in the Deloitte Tech Fast50 and over the last three years have an average CAGR of 48%. Gil says they have consistently spent 40% of net revenue on new innovation and R&D over the last three years.

Anthill asks: What motivates you as an entrepreneur?

My desire to build businesses. Whether it is my own or those of my customers, I have always been passionate about taking ideas that are worth building businesses around and making them succeed. I get motivated by mini‑wins. A new customer that grows their spend because of our platform. A new starter that grows to be a manager. Those are the day to day motivators that drive me. My only other major driver is of course my competitive nature. If we are going to do something, we might as well be number 1 at it.
