What is 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. Behold, our 2012 30under30 Honourable Mentions! More.

Gareth Robinson, NSW (b. 1987)

Name: Gareth Robinson
Age: 25 (Born: March 1987)
Gender: Male
State: NSW
Known for: Leasate

Gareth Robinson finished uni with a degree in computer science, an obsession with entrepreneurship and the will to disrupt the real estate industry.

The result was Leasate, a rental property management service designed to connect landlords with tenants without relying on an agent.

Robinson says his own experience with rental agencies and the slanted commissions system influenced his choice of a product beneficial to property owners. Angel investors have helped Leasate through its first year in business, and a hundred customers have signed on.

For all his technical panache, the 25-year-old is surprisingly old-fashioned about marketing himself, preferring mouth-to-ear communications and email.

Says Robinson, “What you can learn about your business and product from speaking to your customers is often far greater than what analytics will tell you.”

Anthill asks: Gareth Robinson, what motivates you as an entrepreneur?

I have an IT/programming background, and the best thing that has taught me is the satisfaction gained from having the power of creation — to be able to imagine something you think should exist, and then actually go out and make it, and generate something of use to other people.
