1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

Non-LED lighting is a dying industry. Our client was in non-LED lighting. They had ideas for a new product but their prospects weren’t biting. This is a classic problem. We guided them through a series of product options including 2 major pivots and eventually it became obvious that what their prospects wanted was a smart cities device. But with special attributes nothing on the market could offer.

The formula was:

  • Go electrician required (either solar powered or battery operated)
  • Gasses, pollution, micro-climate, people counting, occupancy, utilisation, amenity
  • And web services to provide data on all this.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…support councils, public utilities and government agencies by providing timely and cost effective local sensing solutions for amenity, environment, utilisation, people counting and any other measurements they need to be able to assess the effectiveness of programs they run.

It does this by…

…the product range allows measurement of multiple sensor types to provide real data at a cost effective installation cost that can support decision making for the benefit of all stakeholders from the agency down to individual residents.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

There are no Smart Cities products you can currently install that do not require either an electrician (cost up to $3500), an expensive data services option, or a high power budget. The arcHUB is scientifically recognised (Agilent Award for Innovation in Analytical Science in Australia 2017 Finalist) and also revolutionary in approach. Multiple project wins are already in deployment.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Lower cost to purchase (<20%), lower cost installation (<5%) , lower cost data services (<50%) and sensor accuracy at 70% of laboratory grade for 1% of the cost. And a huge range of sensor options. This is Affordable IoT.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Predecessors didn’t solve the problem. That is the point. Cost effective smart cities devices don’t exist until this innovation. Please do check it out. The nearest competitor is Libelium and they are 100s of times the power consumption and 10 times the price. This is a new product category and pioneered in Australia.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Anyone who wants a cost effective telemetry platform with IoT reporting. The primary candidates right now are councils and government agencies such as the EPA. Private offerings include Waterlink apartment metering, hydrasmart bulk water tanker monitoring and Samaran septic tank monitoring. Any sensor technologies can be matched with the platform provided the power profiles matches the power availability.

It is available for sale through…

The Active Reactor Company.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Use trials to demonstrate the potential then follow up with commercial sales. In the case of councils, these are all fully funded trials.
