In hindsight, this was a match in some mad, musical heaven: those wacky, inventive rockers OK Go and the over-the-top oeuvre of Super Bowl commercials. Partnering with Chevrolet, they pilot a specially outfitted Sonic through the California desert to bang out a version of their song “Needing/Wanting.”
We’ve seen the imaginative guys from OK Go on treadmills. We’ve seen the band channel Rube Goldberg and share the camera with awesome dogs. For their latest trick, these musical masters of the viral video tried their most daring stunt yet — making a vid dressed in skintight, pond-green unitards.
What we wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall at OK Go’s music video brainstorming sessions. Since the Chicago-based band’s 2006 hit ‘Here It Goes Again’ blazed up the YouTube charts (it’s currently the 29th most-viewed music video on the site) the group has become the alternative rock darlings of the interwebs, demonstrating commercial creativity in spades.
As big fans of creativity in any form, we’ve covered this rock act before, when it released its This Too Shall Pass video featuring this most bodacious Rube Goldberg Machine, likely to inspire the inventor in us all. Today (’cause it’s Friday), we’re pleased to bring you the band’s latest clip (and song), White Knuckles. The video doesn’t stray too far from OK Go’s winning recipe, featuring the band, one-take and some entertaining extras.
Sure, it’s a film-clip for a rock band (hardly business related). But it, nonetheless, showcases a feat of extreme commercial creativity likely to inspire the mad inventor in all of us.
