1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

This innovation initially came to life when soprano/social entrepreneur Tania de Jong saw the popularity of choirs and decided to reverse the “hard knocks” model to create inclusion choirs that represent the diversity of our global community – with haves and have-nots coming together as ONE tribe. Following Tania’s TED talk, “How Singing Together Changes The Brain”, we have received enquiries from across the globe to replicate our innovative program. Creativity Australia is now supercharging its reach and impact through the With One Voice online social franchise model and global online singing challenge Sing for Good and Giving Circle initiatives.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Break down social welfare sector silos and build happy, healthy, inclusive self-supporting communities nationwide through the neuro-scientific benefits of group singing. We aim to solve social problems locally and change the world, one voice at a time.

It does this by…

Empowering silenced voices enabling giving between diverse people via the Wish List and the Giving Circle. CA is now maximising reach beyond the With One Voice choirs, through the international Sing for Good video online fundraising challenge and the MyChoir social franchise model which enables individuals, groups and communities to replicate our innovative model via online tutorials, guides and mentoring.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

It cuts across barriers to create proactive, self-supporting communities and rather than siloing disadvantaged people into a program, empowers them to find their voice and purpose in life. Sing for Good aims to get people singing in every postcode of Australia and globally. MyChoir social franchise model will help us meet demand for new inclusive choirs in diverse communities nationwide.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Its various benefits to participants include joy, wellbeing, friendship, mentors, skills, networks, mentors and employment. A recent evaluation by Swinburne University revealed participants experienced significant improvements to their mental health, community engagement and skills for work and life.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Siloed services that segregate groups such as migrants, youth-at-risk, the homeless, disabled or unemployed. By contrast, when diverse voices come together as one on a regular weekly basis, we create ‘positive human collisions’ that empower people from all backgrounds to ask for what they need in life and give back to others. Over 2500 wishes have been granted so far!

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Choir of Hard Knocks, and other programs limited by prerequisites/costs/training which mainly attract fortunate Australians. CA’s programs are fully inclusive, multi-generational and cross-cultural and designed to solve the global epidemic of loneliness and social isolation. Participation is by donation.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

EVERYONE! Creativity Australia’s With One Voice choirs welcome people from all faiths, cultures and backgrounds, aged 9 to 90. Age, race, language, religion, disability and disadvantage fade away. The reach of the Sing for Good (www.singforgood.org) video challenge is even wider: families, sports teams, community clubs, schools, workplaces and universities around the nation and beyond, thanks to our partnership with World Singing Day.
