Australian state, federal and local governments spend $30 billion annually on grants, with no common platforms or processes. OurCommunity created “Grants Rage,” where thousands of grant users related what was wrong with existing systems. OurCommunity then created a common platform for every government agency, Smart Grants. Through that outlet, the company has already earned business from more than 255 government agencies.
“We are hard–working passionate entrepreneurs with a massive social conscience and a bent to change government IT purchasing and the eco-system of grant making,” the company tells us.
The company has put more than ten years into creating its online platform. In doing so, the company is revolutionising the way grans are gotten, all across the country.
“Everyone thinks the community sector is poor and has no money. Crap – it’s 8-per cent of our workforce and turns over $110 Billion – not million – each year,” the company adds in their application.
“Thirteen years ago, we saw the opportunity to aggregate the market and offer services but most importantly reform business practices for better social and national outcomes. 65-per cent of Australians belong to one or more of these 600,000 community groups.”
OurCommunity works with individual community groups and members, business and government to deliver a one-stop-shop of resources and tools.
The company is doing to good (and hard) work of helping the Australian community, and that earns it a spot on our 2013 list of Cool Companies.
