What is the 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians.
Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.
Mark McDonald and Josiah Humphrey
Name: Mark McDonald and Josiah Humphrey
Age: Both 23
Gender: Male
State: VIC
Known for: Appster
Founding Appster, an app and software development company, was not even the beginning of success for Mark McDonald and Josiah Humphrey. Previously, the pair started a digital marketing agency selling SEO services and generating over $50,000 in revenue… At the age of 13.
Can you imagine what they can do now?
Appster brings together all the fragmented aspects of the startup journey into one place, eliminating unreliable outsourcing and allowing entrepreneurs to focus on what matters in creating their business.
From its bootstrapped start in 2011, Appster now employs over 275 staff across three continents and has generated millions upon millions of dollars in revenue. Mark and Josiah have barely hit their mid-twenties, but are already spinning a web of success on their road to realising their goal of becoming “the world’s first global ideas company”.
With awards such as BRW’s 27th Most Innovative Company, StartUpDaily’s Top 40 Male Entrepreneurs under 40, a blog in the Top 20 Best Business Blogs and global recognition from the New York Times and Forbes for their interview process, we really are left questioning what these entrepreneurs have yet to achieve.
And what better way to thrive in this success than to pass the wisdom on to aspiring entrepreneurs. Appster Academy trains over 100 engineers annually and the duo is currently piloting a course curriculum with the Tasmanian Education Department to teach children to code. They are also giving back to the start-up community with monthly events and student mentoring, to help pass on the entrepreneurial dream.
Now, Anthill is pleased to announce Mark McDonald and Josiah Humphrey, 2015 30under30 winners.
Anthill asks: Mark and Josiah, what’s your favourite quote?
“Appster is governed by four core values. 1) Change Is Good (flexibility and adaptability), 2) Radical Transparency (no sensitive souls and no egos), 3) High Performance (including relentless discipline), 4) We Are Dreamers (we create our own reality).”
