What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. Evixa began as a dance workshop, and now Melbourne choreographer Flic Manning wants to bring her unique dance upon the world stage.
Retooled as a full production company, Evixa is the birthplace of the style Manning calls Fusion Contemporary.
In her fearless bid to win recognition, she has produced a music video showing off her style and staged a performance touching on hot-button themes of gender of sexuality.
“I’ve been so blessed in my life to do so many things with dance,” says Manning, who in two years has taught over 300 classes and brought in four dancers to the Evixa team.
“I’m determined to leave my mark and open up more dance opportunities for dancers from all backgrounds. It’s the least I can do.”
Anthill asks: Flic Manning, what gives you entrepreneurial cred?
Starting my own dance style and being rebellious enough to go against the grain in how I advertise it, the content of my work and my willingness to have my ideas rejected. People work with me because I am different and I get the job done.
