What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. Born in France, made in Perth, Olivier Mamet leaves his mark as an animator and video producer by thinking Outside Of The proverbial Box.
So proverbial, in fact, that he named his company OOTB Communication.
After gaining his citizenship and a degree in film, Mamet looked to apply his wizardry to enhancing communications within and among businesses. In doing, he discovered a business sense that he never learned at uni.
Part advertising, part promotional film, OOTB focuses on getting the message across to the audience in a sleek, approachable form (iiNet and Advantage Air are two conspicuous clients). Mamet has also developed three iPhone apps of his own — including an addictive game called Save Dodo — and earned himself a trip to Cannes for a short video on Internet privacy that was crowdsourced by Razorfish.
Yet Mamet can be self-effacing when it counts. In his French manner, he opts to cite his pasta-making skills as his source of credibility: “I can’t take a high road here and be all fancy,” he insists.
“My pasta is delicious.” No documentary of his culinary skills in action is yet forthcoming.
Anthill asks: Olivier Mamet, what has been your greatest ‘sales’ achievement?
I don’t believe in persuasion really…I believe more in guided problem solving. I am very good at spotting the problem and then it’s pretty easy to just point it out with the finger and offer a solution.
