What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. An event maker for all seasons, Kate Stewart has been jazzing it up with Bright Young Things since 2009.
Her catering and organising staff, numbering more than 120, regularly put on one-of-a-kind festivities and theatrics to get people talking.
Whether it’s a Grand Prix-themed birthday party with French musicians providing the live soundtrack, a Grace Kelly-inspired high tea at the Melbourne Fashion Festival, or a boat tour with custom cocktails for 300 guests — Stewart always goes the distance to make it unforgettable.
“We are known for adding that little bit of extra love in every event and foodie item we do,” she says. “Our philosophy is that ‘Nothing is a Problem’ and that there’s ‘Always a Solution’.”
This year, continuing her intimidating growth, she created a full commercial kitchen for BYT from scratch and added an in-house pastry team.
Each validation of her company in turn lends greater validity to Stewart’s favourite quote, from Marilyn Monroe: “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”
