Pauli’s Exclusion Principle is a theory in quantum physics. Essentially, it states that no two electrons within a single atom can exist at the same energy level.
Take something as simple as boiling water. As the water atoms begin to heat up, their electrons begin to change and move to different energy levels. And, as all electrons must obey the Exclusion Principle, other electrons in the universe must respond accordingly, and alter their energy levels.
So, by boiling the kettle to make a cup of coffee, you are, in fact, changing the universe.
In this video Professor Brian Cox, particle physicist at the University of Manchester and contributor to CERN, explains the Pauli Exclusion Principle in simple terms, far better than I am.
What has this got to with entrepreneurs? Actually, quite a lot.
There is rarely a linear path to create an idea or business. Every decision you make, every action you take in your business, has a flow on effect. The circumstance, the market, the business changes with each decision made.
Actions can’t be undone, because everything moves to accommodate the change. One decision, one action, changes everything. A new decision can be made, but the circumstances will never be the same again. This is why building a business can often feel like a game of 3D Chess.
So, everything you do is connected to everything else. Use your power wisely, grasshopper.
