Fall in love with your business again: How to make an old, existing business feel new

0

Your relationship with your business can often mirror the relationships in your personal life. All business professionals have felt moments of passion, gratitude, happiness, frustration, anger and even defeat at some point along their business journey. It’s crucial you give the relationship with your business the same attention and effort you would your significant other or best friend.

Most individuals can remember the time period when suddenly the office coffee machine just didn’t shine the way it used to. From daunting projects to a general lack of inspiration, the exit from the honeymoon phase at work can plummet individuals into a cycle of self-doubt and frustration.

It’s true the nuance of the job, work colleagues and office space tend to dull over time and many individuals might find themselves in a bit of a rut, unsure of how to snap out of it. Whether you’ve hit this phase recently, have been living in it for a great deal of time, or want to proactively avoid the lull in passion for work for yourself or your team, Melissa Haywood, Head of Vistaprint Australia shares some tips on how to help make your old or existing business feel like new.

Create a vision board

Having an ‘aspiration’ board in plain sight at work is a constant reminder of why you’re doing what you’re doing. Maybe it’s working towards expansion, a wider product offering or even a new office space? You may be going through the trenches at the moment, but when you look over and see what you’re working towards, you’ll be reminded of why you are grafting now – to reap the rewards later.

Give your brand a makeover

One of the best ways to make an old business feel like new is to re-style and refresh your business image. Re-design your logo, your business cards, your stationery or social media channels. Having a fresh edge to your look will give your business that new feeling and spark inspiration for the future.

Create personalised content calendars

Create a personalised calendar of everything on the agenda for 2020. Hanging this near your desk or printing in a large size for your wall will not only inspire you to fill it with networking events, client dinners and brainstorm sessions, but it will also help you (and your colleagues) to plan, forecast and see the bigger picture. Remember also to schedule some time for rest and self-care – and stick to it.

Keep your workspace organized

It sounds counter-intuitive, but keeping your workspace clean and organised can help you respect and love your work tremendously. It’s easy to become frustrated and un-focussed when you’re surrounded by overflowing folders, scattered documents, and messy inboxes. Make your office supplies your secret weapon in creating a clean, zen work space.

Network

Fostering your support networks – not only across your personal relationships, but also with professional colleagues and mentors – will boost your business offering. Having a mentor is crucial in gaining well-rounded advice in times of stress. Ensure you’re equipped with up-to-date business cards and contact details, as you never know when you might meet someone important! Keep a few business cards in your wallet, you can never be too prepared.

Be realistic about your goals

Setting too many arduous goals for the year ahead can feel daunting when it should feel exciting. Instead, set 3-5 realistic and attainable goals to create a domino effect of wins. Be sure your business mission and vision is clear in you and your team’s mind, and that every goal set reverts back to these.
