1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

Shannan Gove and Bennett Merriman, Deakin University Students (Commerce Sports Management), noticed that there was no direct route for students to gain experience within the events industry. Many students were graduating only to find out that they didn’t meet the minimum 1-2 year experience that’s required for many entry level jobs. Bennett & Shannan started EW solely to create opportunities in the events industry for these motivated students and graduates around Australia. Since 2010 EW are doing everything within our power to create the next crop of Australia’s event industry leaders.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

bridge the gap between students/graduates and full-time work within the event, sport and entertainment industries. Experience is key for any job within the industry and our purpose is to help students/graduates gain the much needed ‘experience’ while they study.

It does this by…

providing casual work opportunities to over 15,000 Gen Y’s (who are registered with the Event Workforce pathway) at Australia’s biggest and best events including The Color Run, AFL, NRL and Cricket World Cup. Through the experience available at EW we are empowering & inspiring Gen Y to contribute towards successful projects, gain skills & experience and advance their own careers.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Prior to Event Workforce there was no direct rout for motivated, hard working students and graduates to gain crucial event experience, nor was there a direct rout for event companies or agencies to find motivated staff from tertiary institutions. This niche is exactly where Event Workforce fits to partner motivated Workforcers with clients needing a point of difference in staffing.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

– clients have access to staff who arrive with the mentality that each event is just as important to their personal development as it is to the clients’ success. – Students/graduates are building experience and industry networks helping with employability.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

clients having to hire staff who would do whatever work they could for cash on weekends while they studied. This would often result in staff pulling out last minute, not reading briefs or simply not caring about an end result because at the end of the day this casual job had nothing to do with their career ambitions.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Event Staffing Australia, MASH and Promo People. However, no other staffing agency is built solely to provide Gen Y with a pathway that develops them from casual work experience to the full-time industry. That’s where our point of difference lies!

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Event Workforce is made for two purposes: (1) Our staff: Which is made up of Generation Y (Students & Graduates) who are looking to gain experience within the event, sport and entertainment industries. (2) Our clients: Event Professionals (Event Managers / Sponsorship Managers) who are looking for motivated and hardworking staff to help bring their event to life. We can provide staff for a range of roles including brand activations, event operations, ticketing, merchandise, and hospitality.

It is available for sale through…

Joining Event Workforce is free and available via our website. Once a ‘Workforcer’ signs up with us they then have access to our online portal which is where they can partake in online training and apply for upcoming event opportunities.

Our marketing strategy is to…

(1) Market to Gen Y for recruitment (2) Market to clients and industry for business development. Gen Y Marketing: • Lecture Presentations from EW staff • Events included in course curriculum to encourage practical experience • Social Media marketing • Staff Resource Centre on the Workforcer Portal (industry news, insider tips/hints) Client marketing:   • Face to face meetings • Linkedin • Pursuit Of Happiness Networking Drinks
