1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

Ephox’s software development team partnered with IBM to use their Watson artificial intelligence system to help people with web accessibility challenges more easily create content on the internet. As one of the few companies in the world making WCAG and 508 compliant HTML rich text editors, Ephox has a long history of innovation in this space and this partnership is a natural extension of many years of work bringing accessible compliant editors to every user of internet technologies.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

help people more easily create content on the internet by leveraging the artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities of IBM’s Watson. The product will especially help people with accessibility issues create better content more efficiently.

It does this by…

dynamically applying semantic and tone analysis to content while it is being created in web applications such as WordPress (used by 70 million people globally to create content) and many more tens of millions of users of internet applications deploying Ephox rich text editing technologies.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

grammar and spell checking tools only check for literal, structural issues in content and not for issues such as intent, contextual meaning and tone (such as anger or joy). Furthermore, the product can dynamically search large datasets, such as the entirety of Wikipedia, to make contextual recommendations to authors while they create content.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

improved content quality, greater productivity and efficiency when creating content and in the case of users with extreme accessibility challenges the possibility of being able to create large volumes written content for the first time in their life.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

human intervention, post content creation by way of (outsourcing) interviewing, proofreading, editing, editorial, fact checking and referencing services. What makes the product new is the ability for these functions to to completed dynamically during the creation of content. The end result should be a significantly more effective content creation process.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

humans providing interviewing, proofreading, editing, editorial, fact checking and referencing services.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

anyone who regularly creates content on the internet, and perhaps more importantly, for those who don’t but would benefit from being able to. For those who already create content, many of the benefits have already been outlined in this submission. But the biggest gains will be realized by people who are currently unable to effectively communicate with the written word. For example, people for whom English is a second language will be able to explain complex ideas more simply, potentially improving economic opportunity globally.

It is available for sale through…

Ephox’s direct sales channels and global partnerships with companies such as IBM.

Our marketing strategy is to…

leverage existing channels to market, including sales and account management channels, along with content marketing, organic search and global PPC campaigns.
