About 30under30 and the Editors’ Ten:

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants — far more than the 30 spots reserved for the best and brightest. We thought we would spotlight 10 innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30, yet impressed our judges enough to merit special attention. Behold, our Editors’ Choice Honourable Mentions for 2012! More.

Ellen Harvey, ACT (b. 1989)

Name: Ellen Harvey
Age: 22 (Born: 1989)
Gender: Female
Territory: ACT
Known for: BnE Media

There once was a girl who loved to tell stories. One day, she discovered a way to make stories easy for other children to share, so she moved to Canberra and threw herself into full-time entrepreneurship.

Ellen Harvey, the co-founder of BnE Media, has spent her grownup life dedicated to publishing, writing and education, primarily to empower the non-grownups around us.

As the ‘E’ in BnE Media (her sister, Beth, is ‘B’), Ellen has turned a one-off comic-book into a business producing digital storybooks for kids — featuring the adventures of the two sisters’ younger alter egos, complete with illustration, animation and hidden fx.

Naturally, the fun and wonder carry over to the office: “Each employee has a caricature of themselves as six-year-olds and fun titles such as Chief Colour-Inerer or Chief Noisemaker,” says the real-life 22-year-old.

See, kids? Grownups aren’t always boring.

Anthill asks: Ellen Harvey, what motivates you as an entrepreneur?

Everyone is a storyteller and I want to understand their stories. They want to tell their stories. If I can in some way help them accomplish their goal, then that is one more story I have had the chance to hear.
