Paragliding donkey the stupidest marketing stunt ever? We have six more.

Based on dim-memory, subjective reasoning and a (slightly self-conscious) desire to create a traffic accumulating list of massive link bait longevity (like this one), we've created what we've (rather ambitiously) called, "The seven stupidest marketing stunts of all time." (The stunts are presented in no particular order.)

A chance to invest in the next Kylie Minogue

Now here's an idea that raises the phrase 'investment opportunity' by a couple octaves -- purchase a stake in the career of an indie music artist. In exchange for your largess, you'll gain a say in marketing and producing the singer. You can even pitch them a song.

Don't build houses when you can grow them… out of meat!

In this typically thought provoking TED talk, architect and ecologist Mitchell Joachim shares some of his recent experiments 'growing' houses out of trees and... meat! Imagine using animal fat for insulation and "sphincter muscles for doors and windows".

Old Spice adopts new approach to FMCG marketing

If you haven't already watched the commercial below, you're about to see what is already being described as one of the best brand re-launches of all time. It deservedly won the Film grand prix at the Cannes Lions and is now being praised, far and wide, for the way its creators Wieden + Kennedy have extended the reach of the campaign to embrace social media.

An 'anthropological' introduction to YouTube [VIDEO]

The word 'anthropology' refers to the social science that studies the origins and social relationships of human beings. It would be hard to think of a more instructive tool for the analysis of modern human behaviours than YouTube.

What my son’s foul-shot taught me about business… and getting in the zone

Picture it: a packed basketball stadium with fans going wild. It’s my son’s basketball grand final. There are four seconds on the clock. His team is down by two points. And he’s just been fouled – meaning he has two free throws. He makes his way to the free-throw line – the enemy of even the most accomplished NBA player. If he nets both shots, the game goes into overtime. If not, his team will lose the game.

Robot built to fetch inventors beer

The selection process for our weekly Beer O'Clock newsletter (The Best and Worst of Anthill TV) involves a surprisingly complex number of considerations, such as balance, educational content, local relevance, chuckle-factor and good taste. That's why it was pleasing to stumble across this short clip at 4:22 this afternoon (yes, only minutes ago). It's now that special time of day. So... enjoy.

Post your pitch video on the Anthill website

Do you have a 'pitch video', 'rave reel' or other form of digital media that you store on YouTube or could easily upload to YouTube? If you do, we're creating a place on our site where you can showcase the spoils of your toils to our highly entrepreneurial (and influential) community.

Young Entrepreneurs hit Sydney… The Video

In this clip, we asked guests of our Sydney event what piece of advice offered by our panel of young entrepreneurs was most memorable. Some of these mini-interviews were conducted early in the evening. Others... a tad later (after draining the bar tab). No points for guessing which mini-interviews took place when.

Past winners talk about winning Enterprize (How would you spend $100,000?)

It's been an enjoyable ride watching the evolution of the University of Queensland Business School's Enterprize competition. The winners are always an inspiring lot. But so have been the various promotional videos that the University has created in recent years to promote the awards.

WIN $100,000 FOR YOUR BIG IDEA

If you have an amazing business idea, UQ Business School’s Enterprize Competition could give you $100,000 to help make it a reality.

Dell's Richard Binhammer: Twitter for big business [VIDEO]

Yesterday, in Sydney, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Dell's Richard Binhammer. According to the company bio, he's "a core member of Dell’s Social Media Advisory Council and responsible for designing and implementing digital media and blog outreach, with a special emphasis on communities and corporate reputation." What does this mean? He's the guy largely responsible for Dell's pioneering moves in social media over the past four years.

Could this be the cheapest promotional stunt ever?

Australia experienced its first ever 'flash' snowball fight in Melbourne's Federation Square last week. The public stunt, involving yeti, winter-clad revellers and a whole-lotta-snow, was staged to promote the end of 'snowy' reception at community television station Channel 31.

Hanging loose. The youth of today could soon make yesteryear’s heroes a reality.

Hibiki Kono is a 13-year-old, self-confessed, Spiderman fan who spent five months developing the technology to climb like his idol. Using two 1,400-watt vacuum cleaners (purchased from a local supermarket), the King's College School, Cambridge, UK student, modified a suction device that enables him to crawl up walls.
