1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

Soprano and social entrepreneur Tania de Jong AM saw the popularity of choirs and decided to reverse the “hard knocks” model to create inclusion choirs that represent the diversity of our global community. In 2016, Creativity Australia’s With One Voice choir network is celebrating its seventh birthday and, following Tania’s TEDx talk, “How Singing Together Changes The Brain”, the charity is getting inquiries from across the globe. Creativity Australia is currently preparing for the Sing for Good 2016 fund raising campaign – Launching May 16 with a global, viral social media sensation with The Liberators International.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

The global Sing for Good Video Challenge swaps ice-buckets and moustaches for community singing… promoting joy, wellbeing, creativity, diversity and inclusion. We aim to get people singing in every postcode of Australia (and beyond) over the next three years!

It does this by…

… asking groups of 2 or more to sing a song, enter their video online. Then ask your networks to vote, donate/support and share your entry. Donations raised through Sing for Good help disadvantaged people join the life-changing With One Voice choirs, plus more than 30 charity partners who will each receive 50% of funds raised through their entries.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Everyone can sing so the campaign can mobilise those aged 5 to 100! It also breaks down the stigma around singing. We aim to get people singing in every postcode over the next three years and reach out globally via partnerships with organisations like World Singing Day. Our replicable MyChoir program will help us meet demand for new choirs.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

creating joy around the globe, wellbeing, improved mental health, team building, creativity, diversity, new skills acquisition, friendship, mentors, networks and employment. A study by Swinburne revealed 98% of participants experienced less stress, 91% improved social bonds, 66% feel less depressed.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

…campaigns that are specific to one group of our community eg. men growing moustaches. Programs that segregate groups such as migrants, youth-at-risk, the homeless, disabled or unemployed. By contrast, when diverse voices come together as one, we create positive human collisions that empower people from all backgrounds to ask for what they need in life and give back to others.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Campaigns such as Movember, other fundraising campaigns run by numerous charities, ice bucket challenges, more traditional singing events and competitions.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Everyone! Sing for good welcomes people from all faiths, cultures and backgrounds, aged 5 to 100. Age, race, language, religion, disability and disadvantage fade away. The reach of the Sing for Good video challenge is very wide: families, sports teams, clubs, schools, choirs, workplaces and universities around the nation and beyond, thanks to our partnership with World Singing Day. This year we will launch Sing for Good across 156 cities globally via flash mobs on trains singing “Don’t’ Worry, Be Happy”! Through “Sing for Good”, inclusive community choirs can be replicated through our MyChoir programs to enthusiastic community-builders nationwide.

It is available for sale through…

It is available through With One Voice choirs (www.creativityaustralia.org.au) in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, online via the Sing for Good (www.singforgood.org) video challenge and nationwide through MyChoir (www.creativityaustralia.org.au/mychoir).

Our marketing strategy is to…

Our marketing strategy is to engage as many people as possible in joyful, irreverent, spontaneous singing to inspire communities and change the world… One voice at a time. Our promotions comprise media coverage, active social media, videos, live performances, keynote speaking and more… Amplified by five staff members, 50 volunteers, celebrity ambassadors, sponsors and organisational/community partners.
