As a Master of Throwing Rocks, I understand why boomers might want to attack young entrepreneurship programs. But if these loud-mouths can forget about unfair for a moment (yes, it’s not nice losing your place as the centre of attention), they might learn why programs of this type are so important.

Sell some equity in yourself… literally (I’ll take $300,000 for 3 percent of all...

Three social entrepreneurs have created an online marketplace to offer up equity in their life's earnings in exchange for an unrestricted upfront cash investment. Under their structure, investors do not acquire a portion of the entrepreneur's venture; neither do they have any official say in how the investee uses the money. They simply receive a proportion of the entrepreneurs taxable personal income over the term of the investment; their life.

Online Marketing By Design seminar, Sydney [video]

On 2 February, Anthill Magazine and Mumbrella co-hosted "Online Marketing by Design", a panel event held at the Shelbourne Hotel in Sydney. An extension of the successful event held in Melbourne late last year, the Sydney event sold out quickly and the room was brimming with both people and ideas about marketing in the rapidly evolving digital age.

The proposed Australian R&D tax reforms… Do they walk the talk?

Inconsistency is what most influences an organisation's decision to invest in R&D and the extent of its R&D investment. This is because a company cannot budget and minimise risk if it does now know the extent to which it is likely to be eligible for a tax concession. The proposed reforms to the R&D tax concession not only conflict with their stated purpose but offer no consistency to organisations already engaged in the complex task of commercialising innovation... whether novel or risky.

The Monthly Schwag – Xmas Edition

In this special post Anthill Christmas Party episode of The Monthly Schwag, James and Lachy (fail to) put their hangovers aside and chit chat about some of the free stuff we've received from marketers over the past month.

If you like Funniest Home Videos (but are too ashamed to admit it), you’re...

Okay. Because it's the last Friday before we all switch off and get some well earned R&R, we've decided to break from tradition and post a couple of video clips that are completely unrelated to business and innovation. They hail from one of our favourite websites, FailBlog.org. This is one media outlet that you don't ever want to be known for appearing on. (There are better ways to experience your 15 minutes of fame.) Enjoy and happy festive season Anthillians!

Google goggles (so much better than beer goggles)

Ever since Google started spruiking its mobile operating system Android in 2007 (alongside the formation of the Open Handset Alliance), speculation has raged that Google would one-day release its own stand-alone handset to compete directly with the iPhone. So far, that hasn't happened.

Who are the 100 most influential business people in Australia? No one I'd rate.

It's probably the many hours I've spent over the past week researching (and rabble rousing) in aid of our annual Dumb Report, but I couldn't help reading Fairfax's Top 100 Most Influential People with more than the usual requisite amount of cynicism.

The Alchemy of Negotiation with Matt Lohmeyer [FREE REPORT]

Negotiation is part and parcel of everyday life. Despite this, the idea of honing our negotiating skills doesn’t go down well with most of us. We fear that we’ll end up being manipulative, exploitative, scheming. To help us break the chains of this retrogressive mentality, we have Matt Lohmeyer. He has worked as a professional negotiator in various fields for over eight years and before that, negotiated deals with biotech pharmaceutical and chemical companies. In short, he’s an Alchemist in the Art of Negotiation.
