1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation came to life when…

We went to Silicon Valley as a result of winning a pitching contest. We discovered that to be truly innovative, we had to address our market needs via a mobile platform and develop new technology that would tackle the two biggest pain points in our industry that had never been addressed before: the need to recruit instantly and the need to accommodate short notice flexibility. We spent eight months developing a world-first solution to the problems of the growing flexible workforce.

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Workible is a cross-technology instant recruitment, staff management and social platform that allows flexible workers and employers to connect anywhere, anytime on any device. With first-to-market features, Workible will turn recruitment in the flexible workspace on its head.

It does this by…

Allowing employers to recruit instantly via mobile by tapping into their own — or our — virtual staff rooms of available and qualified staff, manage rosters, shift swaps and covers to allow workers more flexibility and build brand engagement and social brand engagement through Workible’s unique company social platforms — and all using cross-platform mobile technology.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

No one has adequately addressed the needs of the huge, growing flexible workforce — finding staff (and jobs) fast and allowing for job flexibility. Unlike job boards that are simply reinventions of offline classifieds — and require a ‘post and wait’ recruitment method — Workible uses cutting-edge mobile solutions to build on the success of our flexible work jobsite HireMeUp.

Saving hours in endless ring-arounds for shift covers and swaps, reducing staff turnover by making job flexibility more accessible and easier for both workers and employers, finding work — and workers — fast to accommodate last-minute needs.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

No one! Online job boards are simply reinventions of offline classifieds and don’t tackle the two big problems: the need for speed and the need for flexibility. Short-term/short-notice needs were previously looked after by recruiters but this is an extremely costly exercise for companies. And ‘post and wait’ was the old guard which simply doesn’t suffice.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Newspapers, online job boards and recruiters — none of which actually address the needs properly of flexible workers or employers. While some job boards have mobile websites, they still don’t cater for the instant needs of the flexible workforce.

5. TARGET MARKET

This innovation is made for…

Our target market crosses multiple industries and sizes. Our primary verticals are industries like hospitality, retail, transport, fitness, medical, entertainment, health and fast food. However, anyone with a roster-based, casual, part-time or temporary workforce has a need for Workible. Our target demographic for worker users includes students (both school and uni), working parents, contractors and non-retiring baby boomers. Anyone who needs flexibility in their workforce is included in our target list.

6. DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

It is available for sale through…

Workible will be distributed through the Apple, Google Play and Windows8 App stores. Employers will have an ongoing licence through HireMeUp to use the product and it will be free for workers.

Plenty of media across press and digital including industry-specific journals and associations, strategic alliance partnerships with major business service providers, social media marketing through Facebook, Google, etc., stalls at careers expos and trade shows, guerrilla marketing including street marketing and user-get-user viral marketing campaigns.
