1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation came to life when…

I was looking for a practical solution for the displaying of names in primary school afternoon pick-up queues. I had witnessed an earlier incident at my child’s primary school as I watched a mum searching for her handwritten sign and not watching the road almost hit a child. This prompted me to search for ‘name display units’ that might exist somewhere on the market. But as nothing like it could be found, I designed it myself.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Clearly and legibly display family names in primary school afternoon school zones to help the queue move more safely and efficiently.

It does this by…

A Car-ID flicks down from the passenger visor to display the name from 30m for teaching staff. Each child is then ready to board and keep the queue moving. A Car-ID minimises driver distractions and keeps both hands on the wheel in a school zone rather than searching for or holding up an illegible handwritten sign.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Moves traffic congestion created by afternoon pick-up queues more efficiently. Allows vehicles to be ID’d from a greater distance by duty staff so that children are safely marshalled to board. Car-IDs provide security at various pick-ups as children are able to ID their car and head toward the correct vehicle in public spaces.

The benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Is a one-off primary school purchase, the unit stays fixed from Kindy to Year 6. Helps afternoon school zones flow more safely and efficiently. Helps teaching staff and carers get through the afternoon duty chaos with fewer distractions.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Written or printed names on paper bull-clipped to the window or visor. These are not always legible, are easily lost and when stuck to the visor, window tinting further impairs legibility.

Car-IDs present a uniform ID system that fits every vehicle without damaging upholstery or compromising the legibility of the name for staff or children.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

This doesn’t exist anywhere in the world. We have a design patent.

5. TARGET MARKET

This innovation is made for…

Primary schools worldwide.

6. DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

It is available for sale through…

Our website: signsafekids.com.

Our marketing strategy is…

Just getting started…

We are taking the product into Sydney schools and looking for media opportunities as part of school safety issues.
