We’ve come a long way since 1994: BMW Super Bowl ad [VIDEO]

It’s one of the classic early main steam media mentions of the Internet.

We can look back now and laugh heartily at such naivety. But trust me. This internet thing was a big deal and if you knew about it, talked about it, you were considered to be a bit odd.

I know. I was there.

I’ll admit that I had email in 1994. And, that I knew how to use a Unix prompt to chat to people. Ok. I had also built a Gopher site the year before but then this swizzy new thing called HTML emerged. Text could be made bold.

Good times.

Now, 21 years after that historic and, now cringe-worthy conversation, Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric are at it again. This time, they’re talking about, what BMW sees as another big thing. Is it as big as the Internet? Who knows. I’m more of an Audi girl myself, although a Tesla is a serious contender for my affections.

The ad received more than 1.5 million views in its first day of viewing. That’s pretty big, no matter how you look at it.
