Over 160 members of the Australian mobile industry gathered in Melbourne on Monday night for Australia’s inaugural Mobile Industry Awards.
Hosted by not-for-profit industry collective Mobile Monday, the purpose of the awards is to recognise Australian talent and celebrate the achievements of this growing industry segment.
Melbourne-based mobile messaging service SMSGlobal picked up the top gong, Mobile Company of the Year (sponsored by MultiMedia Victoria), in addition to the Mobile Innovation/Exporter of the Year Award (sponsored by recruitment outfit Mitchell Lake).
The awards acknowledge SMSGlobal’s recent expansion into new global markets (at the end of 2009, SMSGlobal launched a Middle East/North Africa office in Dubai, UAE) and for securing a number of large contracts with technology giants, such as Microsoft and major airlines.
Nominations for the awards were conducted on Facebook and winners were decided through an SMS poll.
Other category winners included Deck of Secrets, for Consumer App of the Year, Bamboo – Deloitte, for Enterprise App of the Year, Voxel Agents, for Rookie/Startup of the Year, and Big Mobile – ANZ Bank, for Mobile Campaign of the Year.
Deck of Secrets, Consumer App of the Year
The Deck of Secrets iPhone application is an extension of the brand’s popular card-decks, which provide travellers with snapshots of popular international cities.
Bamboo – Deloitte, Enterprise App of the Year

Voxel Agents, Rookie/Startup of the Year
Voxel creates fun and lively games for the smart phone market. The organisation’s quirky and innovative design approach has prompted testimonials such as “addictive gameplay”, “can’t stop playing” and… “nuts”.
Big Mobile – ANZ Bank, Mobile Campaign of the Year
Big Mobile is an end-to-end mobile agency, with a team of over 30 and with offices in Sydney, Melbourne, and Los Angeles, planning and executing mobile solutions for publisher, brand and agency clients, using benchmark proprietary technologies.
