This innovation initially came to life when…

A bright idea in response to a customer’s need to analyse multi-dimensional data led to the development of a new type of business intelligence (BI) software by QlikTech in Sweden in 1993. They called this new software QlikView because it provided a point-and-click simple way to view data. QlikView is now a global phenomenon and delivered to Australia by Inside Info since 2003. The founders of Inside Info could see that the time, cost and complexity of traditional BI software was underwhelming. They chose to change this, developing QlikView applications that greatly simplify how businesses measure and analyse business performance.

WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…simplify business analysis, delivering value fast for better business decisions. BI software traditionally is expensive, takes months and is complex. Inside Info provides self-serve analysis of performance in dashboards that are simple to use, powerful and delivering value in weeks.

It does this by…

…allowing users freedom to explore related information for better insight and answers using its unique patented, in-memory association technology (AQL). QlikView builds and maintains a non-relational, associative database residing in a computer’s RAM that’s immediately available offline down to source transactions, from multiple systems. Metrics calculated ‘on the fly’ as the user performs ad hoc, point-and-click analysis.

PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…you can produce powerful applications that enable data analysis far quicker and more widely used than you can with the traditional approach. Previously you ended up with a complex solution used by technical specialists or a one-dimensional report. Traditional BI applications are complex, restrictive, typically take months to deploy (avg. 5 months – IDC), are expensive and require specialised expertise.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

…its ease of use <30 mins training, fast time to value -3 weeks, modified in minutes, avg ROI of 186% & 53% lower TCO than alternatives, leads in satsifaction (IDC), interactively analyse billions of records in seconds & easily scales.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

…traditional BI applications based on OLAP hypercubes or one-dimensional formatted reporting. OLAP limits users to a few dimensions to analyse; these must be pre-defined in development over many months with redefinition time-consuming. The user interface is complicated for non-IT people and doesn’t cater for evolving business analysis needs. QlikView provides freedom to explore data in any way the user chooses.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

…no-one in the in-memory analytics space. QlikView is the global leader in in-memory business analysis, recognised by IDC for the last three years as the fastest growing BI software. Traditional BI players include SAP/Business Objects, IBM/Cognos, Oracle/Hyperion, Microstrategy and SAS.
