What is 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year’s batch of nominees was extensive and impressive. So much so that we believe several young talents who didn’t snag 30under30 top honors still deserve your attention and recognition. We call them our Up-and-Comers. More.

Michael Morgano, VIC (b. 1986)

Name: Michael Morgano
Age: 25 (Born: July 1986)
Gender: Male
State: VIC

Michael Morgano’s auto-sales site,  Car Genie, is still in its formative stages. But in one regard, it’s already in the fast lane.

Morgano’s website secured a sponsorship with the Eggleston Motorsport team in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar series. That’s Morgano in the photo, posing proudly with the Car Genie decal on the Eggleston racecar. He earned the sponsorship in exchange for some IT work.

Car Genie is a couple of years old. Morgano concedes that online car sales is a crowded market, but he is confident he can carve out a sizable share with competitive pricing and an entertaining approach to marketing and social media.

Car Genie boasts a clean, accessible interface, with quick links to information about buying or selling a car. As for that social media aspect, Morgano prominently displays the business’ presence on Facebook and Twitter, and he maintains a blog about auto-industry news (including dealerships that have formed a partnership with Car Genie).

The site currently has about 200 cars to choose from, but Morgano expects that number to grow soon, with a goal of at least 50 partner dealerships within a month.

Asked what fires up his entrepreneurial spirit, Morgano has a two-part answer. “What motivates me is my ambitions and goals. I would like to live a great, comfortable life where I can provide for my future family.

“I could also say a little bit of revenge is a definite motivational tool — showing all those people who thought I could never be successful that they were wrong would definitely feel good.”

Anthill asks: Michael Morgano, what’s your superpower?

“The ability to ignore all of the doubtful people around me and to keep focused and 100% motivated at all times.”
