What are the Anthill Cool Company Awards?

The Cool Company Awards were launched in 2006 as a way for Anthill to acknowledge and celebrate Australian organisations that are doing things differently to bring about positive change. Cool Companies stay one step ahead of the rest. They breed leaders who are rule-makers and rule-breakers. They are trend-setters in attitude and action. Quite simply, they are … cool! More.

Imagine going to a spot like The Great Ocean road and being able to see years of images collected and collated to show how that spot has changed over time, then being able to add your own contribution and generate new outputs. Sounds intriguing, yes?

That’s exactly what Project Tripod, a startup that formed just three months ago, is working on right now.

“Our founder was out running along his usual track around Ballast Point in Sydney, stopping at the usual point, and trying to take the same photo of the new development at Barrangaroo when he wondered, ‘Why is it so hard to get this same shot?; Why doesn’t my phone just help me?” says Project Tripod CEO, Catherine Eibner.

Project Tripod was born.

The app is based on the idea of a “Virtual Tripod” you could set up anywhere and share with others opened a whole new string of ideas when we realised it had the potential to be something so much bigger

The software is still in the pre-beta phase, but signups are ongoing, and the company, the response has so far been overwhelming.

Not only have many signed up to test the beta product, but Project Tripod has drawn interest from Venture Capitalists. In fact, Project Tripod has secured seed funding from the Microsoft/Nokia AppCampus grant, which gave the young company more than enough juice to get started.

People have been documenting the world around them since the caveman days. Project tripod makes it a considerably more practical reality, using the latest in mobile tech.

And that makes them a Cool Company.
