About 30under30 and the Editors’ Ten:

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants — far more than the 30 spots reserved for the best and brightest. We thought we would spotlight 10 innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30, yet impressed our judges enough to merit special attention. Behold, our Editors’ Choice Honourable Mentions for 2012! More.

Grace Bowe, NSW (b. 1984)

Name: Grace Bowe
Age: 28 (Born: April 1984)
Gender: Female
State: NSW
Known for: Bride Body

Weddings and weight loss: the two industries are a match made in heaven.

Grace Bowe’s Bride Body targets that very specific yet popular niche of women who want to walk off the kilograms before walking down the aisle.

The online program works on a subscription basis, mailing weekly exercise tips and dietary supplements to its participants.

“The Bride Body message is about loving your body and doing the right thing by it, instead of loathing your body,” says the 28-year-old entrepreneur, who has also run a mentoring company for HSC students.

Bowe says the average participant has lost 10kg through the program. While not a face-to-face service, Bride Body is available everywhere in Australia and is poised to go international.

The best exploit for Bowe, herself a recent bride, was earning herself a free wedding through the business: “I boldly approached wedding suppliers offering to list them as Bride Body’s own preferred wedding suppliers in exchange for their free services at our own wedding.”

The lesson: pitch loudly or forever hold your peace.

Anthill asks: Grace Bowe, how have you built buzz for your business?

I believe the best way to raise your own profile is through leveraging relationships with those with a bigger profile than you. I have been strategic in interviewing celebrity wedding dress designers. This exposes me to the designers own large audiences and it also means that people then associate Bride Body in the same league as these established wedding brands.
