1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

I got tired of inefficient public amenities spoiling urban areas.

I am disturbed by the apparent lack of strategy when it comes to the installation of our public amenities, rendering services inadequate, and our cities, ugly; disbanded CCTV cameras are at cross-purposes; masses of signs degrade beautiful cities; and emergency help-points and public address systems, disconnected. I thought: why not integrate various public systems into a single point of presence; a tower? Why not network systems so they communicate with one another and their environment, to deliver communities with a sensory unit that provides an intelligent interface to public services?

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Integrate various, traditionally disparate public systems into a single sensory unit and deliver these in a way that maximises access to services for citizens, reduces infrastructure spending for governments, and improves the efficacy and efficiency of public service delivery.

It does this by…

Combining multiple services in a single unit; services that are improved as an integrated system, intelligent – responsive to its environment, or to human touch.

A multi-function centre housing over 20 traditionally disparate services in one robust presence, Cortex reduces installation and maintenance costs, and simultaneously delivers many different health, cultural and safety services. And it’s all free.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

There is no precursor; Cortex defines next-gen digital public services.

Static signage cannot compare with responsive digital way-finding; Cortex promotes local businesses, tourism and health.

Integrated air, audio and visual security monitors work together and between Cortex installations, delivering revolutionary standards of safety information.

Citizens meanwhile, enjoy blitzing public Wi-Fi, free calls, real-time news feeds and convenient mobile charging stations.

Free Wi-Fi supports productivity;
Live news keeps communities informed;
Sensory surveillance, public access AEDs and live emergency services optimises our safety;

Cortex makes spaces liveable.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Various, individual public service instalments; services that are basic as a standard, and antiquated in their delivery; amenities that are inefficient, and ugly.

Cortex raises public service standards by delivering vibrant, engaging, digital facilities in a sophisticated, single point of presence. Further, Cortex simultaneously improves the efficacy and efficiency of these services by integrating systems into a single, sensory unit.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

n/a. Cortex will define out next-gen public spaces. There is no precursor.
