Chanel Costabir left for Paris at the tender age of 21 with nothing more than a dream (plus a little broken French) and has managed to turn it into a business in which dozens of brands from around the world want to have their products.
“I am simply obsessed with lingerie and after working in lingerie retail, I identified that there was a gap in the Australian market for luxurious and beautifully made lingerie,” she told Anthill, about her motivation to venture out on her own.
The Lingerie Boutique not only offers a collection of some of the most beautiful boutique lingerie brands in Australia, but uniquely couples psychology with styling advice.
“I simply love what I do and I want women to understand that they can feel and look amazing in lingerie,” Chanel remarked, about her entrepreneurial passion for lingerie.
“So many women focus on what they wear on the outside and neglect what is underneath. What is underneath shines out and when a woman wears beautiful lingerie she oozes with confidence, sensuality and becomes captivating. My desire is for all women to feel this way.”
She describes the personality of her business as “seductive, elegant and chic”, as seen in this video below they made for this year’s Valentine’s day.
A previous 30under30 winner, Chanel revealed that since she last year, she has tripled her product range and now offers globally competitive pricing, by slightly changing her business model – this was initially resisted by the designers but she got them on board.
She further revealed that The Lingerie Boutique, which has been operating since 2010, has achieved over 600 per cent growth in revenue within the last year, more than doubled its organic traffic and now services customers across Asia, Europe and North America.

Persistence and resilience. I believe that ‘no’ simply means not yet. There is always a way to do something and if it doesn’t work out, it means you just haven’t found the right way to go about it yet. There have been many things that haven’t worked out, but there have also been many things that have. It is simply a matter of persisting, not taking ‘no’ for an answer and finding a way.
