This innovation initially came to life when…

Being a disability pensioner due to severe hearing loss, I have always found it difficult to be able to enjoy a new movie at the cinema. There are some sites that allow for a “hearing Impaired ” section – about 6-8 people, but not showing popular movies. I have developed a way for ANY hearing impaired person to attend a cinema, along with their family, and only they will be able to see subtitle content. Similar in context to 3D glasses supplied at 3D screenings. Commercially, it will allow more patrons of +10-15%.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…allow more hearing impaired people to attend cinema events with family & others.

It does this by…

…all cinema movies are delivered in digital format “packs”, and contain dedicated subtitle channel, as you would get on a DVD. This channel can be dispersed to a wifi device, and captured by “my” subtitle display unit. Other display technologies will come into play for the intended receiver.

Only have limited “reserved seats” in theatres where a combination of smart-phone, augmented Reality glasses and display of captions. Very expensive, and an option not affordable by most hearing impaired users. Only limited screenings too. Often, some theatres may dedicate an entire session with normal subtitles on – but very rare – every 3-6 months.

5. TARGET MARKET

Subtitling dependent on cinema operator(s), and the number of patrons that would realise a profit.

All families and groups that have at least 1 or 2 members that are hearing impaired, and require assistive subtitling technologies to enjoy a cinema release.

Yet to be formed private distribution channel. Supply chains, manufacturing, sales and installation still yet to be formulated, after proof of concept can be made.

Our marketing strategy is to…

  • Require Funds/ Seed capital to establish proof of concept and a working model to demonstrate to cinema operators (and investors. )
  • Funding also needed to secure IP, and establish business structures.
  • Once proven, selection of 1 or 2 test cinemas. Then marketing to others, and international stage.
