Baby Ink: Colour Inkless Printing Kits (VIC)

This innovation initially came to life when…

The idea came about over two years ago when the founder of Baby Ink, Melinda Weaver, had children and noticed an opportunity in the market for a keepsake product that is easily accessible, easy to use and affordable. Not wanting to use ink or an unsafe product for a baby, the need for a baby-safe, non-toxic keepsake product was evident. Melinda also wanted to celebrate the sex of her baby by using a blue-colour inkless product for her baby boy! Seeing huge potential in the market Baby Ink was born!

WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Provide a baby-safe, non-toxic product that parents can easily use to capture precious memories of their children’s hand and footprints in colour as memorable keepsakes.

It does this by…

Wiping the child’s hand or foot with a dry inkless wipe, pressing on the special paper provided and allowing the print to appear with no mess or safety concerns in a pink, blue or dark grey/black colour.

PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

The basis of this product is founded on the principles of FBI fingerprinting technology in the United States. The inkless products used to capture detailed fingerprints have been applied to taking keepsake hand and footprints of children in a soft colour such as blue or pink rather than a dark grey/black colour for the FBI.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

The product is easy to use, mess-free, non-toxic and baby-safe. Parents can now capture their children’s prints as memorable keepsakes knowing the product is safe and easy to use.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Ink, paint and other potentially harmful and messy solutions. This exciting product has passed international safety standards and is a mess-free solution to creating special memories.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

A product preceding Baby Ink was a black colour inkless applicator used by the United States FBI. The Baby Ink colour inkless wipe technology is the first of its kind in Australia/New Zealand and is exclusive to Baby Ink.

TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Parents who want to create a lasting keepsake by capturing the hand or footprints of children at any age! The prints can be turned into a range of fantastic keepsake ideas by uploading the prints to our website and creating a range of secondary products such as mugs, certificates, jewellery and so on. The product can be used by anyone at any age and is safe and mess-free!

DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

It is available for sale through…

The Baby Ink website, www.babyink.com.au, retailers, photography businesses and a growing network of hospitals and charity organisations.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Work with major hospitals around the country to donate co-branded black kits to its maternity patients. As a result, the Baby Ink brand will receive maximum exposure of its key target market and foster a fantastic word of mouth network. We also expect a spike in online colour sales as a result with an affordable price point of $19.95.
