1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

Soprano and social entrepreneur Tania de Jong AM saw the popularity of choirs and decided to reverse the “hard knocks” model to create inclusion choirs that represent the diversity of our global community.

In 2015, Creativity Australia’s With One Voice choir network is celebrating its sixth birthday and, following Tania’s TEDx talk, “How Singing Together Changes The Brain”, the charity is getting inquiries from across the globe. Creativity Australia is now supercharging it’s reach and impact through the Sing for Good and MyChoir initiatives.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…break down social welfare sector silos and build happy, healthy, inclusive self-supporting communities nationwide through the neuro-scientific benefits of group singing. We aim to change the world, one voice at a time.

It does this by…

…using the neuroscience of singing and enabling giving (resume assistance, language tuition, friendship, jobs and more) between diverse people via the Wish List.

Creativity Australia is now maximising reach beyond the With One Voice choirs, through the international Sing for Good video challenge and MyChoir ‘how-to’ guide, which will see the development of new autonomous, inclusive choirs nationwide.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

It cuts across barriers to create active, self-supporting communities. Sing for Good aims to get people singing in every postcode of Australia over the next three years and reach out globally via partnerships with organisations like World Singing Day. MyChoir will help us meet demand for new inclusive choirs in diverse communities.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

…joy, wellbeing, friendship, mentors, skills, networks and employment. A recent evaluation by Swinburne University revealed participants experienced significant improvements to their mental health, community engagement and more.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

…services that segregate groups such as migrants, youth-at-risk, the homeless, disabled or unemployed. By contrast, when diverse voices come together as one, we create positive human collisions that empower people from all backgrounds to ask for what they need in life and give back to others.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

…the Choir of Hard Knocks, and other singing programs limited by prerequisites/costs/training. CA’s programs are fully inclusive. No auditions or singing experience is required and there are no costs for people in need. Participation is by donation.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Everyone! Creativity Australia’s With One Voice choirs welcome people from all faiths, cultures and backgrounds, aged 9 to 90. Age, race, language, religion, disability and disadvantage fade away. We have more than 700 participants in 3 states, 50 volunteers and 1,000s of audience members annually.

The reach of the Sing for Good video challenge is even wider: families, sports teams, community clubs, schools, workplaces and universities around the nation and beyond, thanks to our partnership with World Singing Day.

Through MyChoir, the resources to create inclusive community choirs will be available to enthusiastic community-builders nationwide.

It is available for sale through…

With One Voice choirs in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, online via the Sing for Good video challenge and nationwide through MyChoir.

Our marketing strategy is to…

…engage as many people as possible in joyful, irreverent, spontaneous singing to inspire communities and change the world… one voice at a time.

Our promotions comprise media coverage, active social media, videos, live performances, keynote speaking and more… amplified by five staff members, 50 volunteers, celebrity ambassadors, sponsors and organisational/community partners.
