1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation came to life when…

We were developing another of our products, which allowed users to create and share content on smartphones. What would happen if users wanted to share content with others who didn’t have the app? What would happen if they opened the link on a BlackBerry but the app was only available on Android and iOS? Chances are they’d end up with a dead link. How could we send just one link to cover all eventualities, and keep them in the loop?

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Increase app developers’ downloads by ensuring any links sent by their apps will ‘redirect’ the recipients to an appropriate destination. It also allows app marketers to use just one link to point to multiple app stores and a default website.

It does this by…

Acting as a middleman between the links. It knows which app the link relates to, and which device type (iOS etc.) is requesting the link. If the app’s installed, the app opens directly. Not installed? rdrct.it can tell which type of device is requesting the page, and send the user directly to the correct app store, or to a website.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

They don’t have to write the custom code themselves. We’ve done it all. We also provide lots of statistics!

The benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Never sending dead links. A sent link will cause developers’ apps to automatically open, send prospective downloaders to the correct app store, or direct them to the app’s home page. They’re kept in the loop which means more downloads.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Developers having to write the code themselves.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Can’t say for certain, but to date we haven’t found any.

5. TARGET MARKET

This innovation is made for…

  1. Developers of apps which share content, and require the recipients of that content to have that app installed.
  2. Developers and marketers of smartphone apps which have versions for more than one OS.

6. DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

It is available for sale through…

Our website, http://rdrct.it.

It’s currently in beta, and free.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Start reaching out to developer communities to trial the beta. Instructional videos are getting made, and we’re looking to start discussions with key players in the app discovery and sharing industries.
