mPole

This innovation initially came to life when…

After starting Pole Dancing classes and travelling to Sydney each week, the need for my own Pole took hold, but my landlord at the time did not share this same enthusiasm for installing a pole. This predicament forced me to design and have made a freestanding pole that did no damage to the precious roof.

WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

mPole shares the experience of Pole Dancing with everyone, not just those in major cities.

It does this by…

Allowing quick, easy and safe setup of poles on any flat surface, therefore making it possible to hold classes in small rural towns, which would not support a dedicated space.

PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Mobile poles are at best portable. Most on the market still require some form of connection to the roof. When we built the mPole I was only aware of one other freestanding pole and it was not really mobile as it had a half-meter-high square base that came in many bits and took a long time to set up.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Quick, easy, safe setup of a whole pole studio in a few minutes, allowing gyms, dance studios, etc. to hold Pole Dancing classes in the same space they hold other classes, providing variety to the venue’s offering.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Use of floor-to-ceiling poles, which were bolted in, which would be left in place and other classes would be held around them. Or by portable poles that are held in place by upward pressure on the roof, which would require a lot more of a person’s time to set up.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

X pole, Passion Pole, Platinum Stages (USA), R -Pole (UK).

TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Women, who have a keen interest in fitness, love a challenge and love to share the mPole experience with others.

DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

It is available for sale through…

We sell the Pole Dance experience. The mPole itself and its custom built trailer is being licensed out as mPole franchises known as mPole Express, currently with two locations. Looking for fit and friendly women to take on more.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Bring our brand of Fun and Sexy fitness to regional areas that wouldn’t support a dedicated studio space.

A good client asked for a unique team-building program that would enhance the team’s ability to think creatively, collaborate towards a result that created a legacy, embedded the team’s purpose and values and led to a deep level of understanding between team members. A major mobile operator in the UK approached our channel partner to see if they could help determine if smartphone applications (iPhone, Android, etc.) were causing congestion and outages in the mobile network. • Indie Hub (SMART 100)

We were writing a news article on an indie game developer and noticed that their official website was a total mess. It had very limited pictures and no videos, and provided no effective ways to communicate with its existing and potential customers. Having browsed around in the iTunes marketplace we discovered a similar problem shared by many indie game developers: one- or two-man teams spend all of their energy on making a kick-ass game, and they don’t have the resource to build an awesome website to showcase the game. This inspired us to develop the Indie Hub.

  • Customisable Eyewear (SMART 100)

Daniel He, an optometrist, first worked in an optical store in the late 1990s selling eyewear. Too often a customer was dissatisfied with one or more aspect of shape, colour, material or size of the glasses they purchased. Most compromised and settled for something that was mass-produced. Now, a decade on, this problem was a recurring theme. So he out to change this, in an industry dominated by multinational companies.
