1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

I started looking for part-time work in advertising after having my first child, and finding little to no options. Everyone wanted full time only, and the more people I asked, the more I realised I wasn’t alone. So I decided to create an online meeting place where people could find someone similar to share a full time role with as a job share team.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

The purpose is to create an online meeting place for professionals to find a job share partner. It makes job sharing accessible to everyone and can be used as an internal job share register for corporates helping with staff retention.

It does this by…

Essentially it’s an online dating site for professionals. Job seekers set up a profile and search the database for someone similar. Once they find someone they combine their resumes, write a joint cover letter and apply for full time work as a team, opening up many more possibilities for flexible work and career progression.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Jobs Shared’s platform makes job sharing accessible to everyone as they’re no longer just bound by looking for a partner at their current place of work (if they have one) or people they know. When used as an internal resource within a company it allows them to use job sharing to help with cross-training, up-skilling and succession planning.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

It makes finding a job sharing partner easy. It opens up opportunities for career progression that would not be there if they were limited to looking for part-time work. It helps keep people in their career while giving them flexibility.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

In the past job sharing arrangements have mostly been achieved by knowing someone in the workplace, which means mostly large corporations are currently using job sharing arrangements, and even then, it’s not a common form of flexible work. Having a job sharing platform allows employees and job seekers to find a partner and create their own solutions for flexible work.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

The target market is two fold. Large corporates with staff over 500 that are required to report to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency are the target for Jobs Shared software as a service (internal corporate register). And anyone looking for flexible work (mums, dads, entrepreneurs, people nearing retirement, people looking after sick relatives, people seeking more ‘me time’ or people with disabilities) are the target for Jobs Shared.

It is available for sale through…

It’s an online service and can also be sold as software as a service to corporates looking to use it as a closed register.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Through speed dating style events to create a buzz and show how it works in real life. Creating awareness through social media, producing cheat sheets for people to download to assist with creating their resumes and cover letters, and a big piece of research outlining job sharing arrangements, their benefits, barriers and examples of current arrangements.
